midterm (part zillion)
kurts post, which covers a lot of ground. our daily whiteboard pictures, our integrated patch with wills additions, my work. perry's patch remains on our to-do list (gl slidebars). but then, we need to know if we can integrate the gl windows with normal windows. (the first whiteboard picture explains a little of the interface as we now imagine it - stupid max, making us compromise.)
there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I understand the interface, and the purpose for designing it. I can't help but wonder if this is the best way to navigate the video... esp. without the integration of any type of metadata. I guess I'm not sure that the 3d videoplanes help that much. I would never argue with the fact that they look really cool, but looking at things like this:

make me think that being able to quickly glance at a larger temporal range of stills and jump to a frame that way might be more useful than seeing 5 frames at a time. looking forward to seeing what you've done so far next week.

one of the limits right now is on number of screens and its not exactly what we had in mind. max has limited us in many ways with the interface and id say this is one of them - ideally the user should have a lot more control over the number and position of the screens then we can afford here.
one of things i do like about our system that you dont get with stills is the ability to scrub and step through - allowing you a strange association with the data. with the time in between the interval you set.
again, im not convinced this is the only way to represent time-based media, but we have to start somewhere.
we will demo it tonight prob and then hopefully post some screenshots in the next few days for those of you without max.
