Kronos

Kronos is a modern, manmade island resort surrounded by the waters of the Mississippi river. Along one bank is a boardwalk and water park, but behind 100 foot walls that surround the bulk of the island lie adventures through centuries and millennia along the run of an internal river that serves as a conduit through time.


Boundaries and Context

Kronos is a 2.5 by 5.5 mile, manmade island surrounded by the Mississippi river on one side, and a manmade branch of the river on the other. A third branch courses through the center of the island, and the triad joins at the island’s south end.

Internally, Kronos is divided into four time zones: 1930’s, 1880’s, 1600’s, and 10 million B.C.. A hotel/commissary at the head of the river provides a modern launch point for a paddleboat steamer to ferry passengers up and down the river.

Each time zone is separated from the others on the river by a thick wall of fog, with the last fog bank obscuring rapids (there is no return up river from the prehistoric time zone). On shore, divisions occur along impassable escarpments or dense forest.

Actors and seasonal inhabitants help provide atmosphere and adventure within and between time zones. Period appurtenances abound in each zone, and scenarios of murder, thievery, and the paranormal will entertain participants to varying degrees as they allow themselves to be immersed in the mysteries of the island. Hidden tunnels and electronics that run beneath Kronos allow technicians to spy on, and manipulate, the environments. This is especially true of the partially obscured and submerged animatronics of the prehistoric region.

The adventures may include bloody assassinations and people being eaten alive by dinosaurs, with threads of plot spanning the time zones.

The Audience

People, ages 13 and older, can enjoy day trips to the first two regions, but only overnight packages allow people to travel the last two. Currency exchanges for the zones are made aboard the steamer, and period-appropriate clothing can be bought on land for their value at that time.

Participants will have agency to explore the zones, interactive with others, and investigate, but no non-Kronos possessions are allowed on the island at any time, but attacks against other people and equipment will result in fines and incarceration. Each zone has it’s own methods of policing visitors.

I like the overall theme of several time periods, each in a zone. In a way, it is kind the aggregation of four different theme parks, one for each time period. What would be more interesting than just four time periods would be trans-time plots, events, and adventures. You alluded to this. Personally, I'd like to hear some explicit examples of adventures or events that interweave the time periods into a whole experience that is more amazing than the time periods individually.

Part of me likes the time zone/time period division in layers as you drew them. Another part of me wonders, though about having the time periods be more accessible from each other through a different topology (such as a radial pie, or anything that gives each time period direct access to multiple time periods).

Some theme spanning each of these time periods could be clearer. Some technological thread, biological thread, religious thread, political thread, or economic thread could weave the time periods together.

Just my thoughts. Take what you like. Kindly dispose of the rest.
