Some more interesting emergence links on the web:

Emergence author Stephen Johnson has a pretty interesting blog talking about a lot of these issues.

This is a pretty cool "Prototype for an Emergent Behavior Visualization Tool, based on the principles presented in the reading 'Design of Cities', by Edmund N. Bacon."

Also I would really recommend everyone, if you don't bother with the above, check out levitated.net which is run by Jared Tarbell, who is a researcher who uses actionscript to create both highly appealing and emergent peices. Very compelling stuff.

Jared Tarbell has also been a contributer to a number of flash publications. I know a couple of you hav expressed interest in learning some flash / actionscripting, and his contribution to Flash Math Creativity is a really nice way to approach basic programmatic actionscripting. I own this book, so just ask me if you want to borrow it. Word.

I was just thinking about buying "Flash Math Creativity" on Amazon.com. Also, there is a guy who has been doing similar kind of algorithmic design thing. His name is John MAEDA, an associate professor of Aesthetic and Computation Group at MIT Medialab. see http://www.maedastudio.com . This site has some interesting works that works as Java application.
