vipod has 44.1 stereo record. word. @08:34 AM

thank goodness the new ipod can record (prolly compressed) 44.1 stereo audio... I realize that every other mp3 player on the market already had this functionality, and that I can use by 3G ipod running iPod Linux to record -- but good to have it finally implemented as a feature anyway.

Some thoughts about the timing and overall strategic plans that Apple is gradually building:

They aren't bleeding edge with the tech; this thing could have been out years ago. However, with the build up of Tiger, iTunes, podcasting, licensing agreements, iMac / frontrow, etc. they can launch this sucker and shift the giant user base they've built overnight, not to mention shake their competitors to the core. This strategy is what I see as revolutionary now: Do things in the right order, with the right muscle, at the right time, (and arguably) with the right design.

Which begs the question, why haven't they put a camera in this? Vodcasting seems to be ready to go with their existing model. My first thought is that they want to reap the profits of the first wave of them, and then make everyone upgrade in 6 months, to do it all again. Thus continuing the love/hate between myself and a company that creates elegant products and brilliant UI, but unarguably loves to have you by the balls (iTunes fascism was enough to make me swear off buying another Apple mobile device after getting an iPod this year).

But is it really impossible to give users functionality and freedom, as well as leverage strategies to win the mainstream? WTF, Sony?? Do people feel the PSP has achieved this?
