chuck close images from python script

cc

hopefully to redeem myself after my unfashionably-late last post, I had to cross post this cool python app my friend peter wrote that basically turns a normal image into a chuck close topographic-map style image. More details of the app can be found here.

Paul Robertson’s Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle 2006

So yeah... I guess this is kind of old... but being a huge fan of metal slug in all it’s varities, I was completely blown over after watching this Paul Robertson animation. The ideas and details here are great though. A baby boss on some sort of giant larve, a datsun power-up, puppy carnage, and just endless blood and mayhem.

qtopia open linux phone

qtopiaPhone.jpg

Trolltech (interesting name...) just announced that they are shipping an _open_ linux based phone in september. Not sure how integrated the hardware and software are in this device, but the linux platform is designed to foster 3rd party mobile application development, which is sorely lacking in the current mobile arena. Basic tech specs include a dual-core XScale processor at 312 MHz, with 64mb of RAM and 128 flash memory through a SD slot. The screen resolution is QVGA (320X240), and includes most bells and whistles like Wifi, bluetooth, a 1.3 Mpx camera. No price is available yet, looks like, but I'd imagine it'll run you around $400.

This is the first real expedition into a good development phone that is free from all the ridiculous regulatory nonsense of the carriers. Of course, that means you probably won't be making your verizon calls from this phone - rather, you'll do it through voip when you can hit a hotspot. Nonetheless, this is a good solution in the short term for getting some open 3rd party development going for a more phone-like mobile device. However, if you just want to get a basic prototyping rig going for a phone, I'd recommend getting a series 60 nokia phone and a copy of mobile python or mobile processing.

isea placemark feed / map

iseamap.jpg

Going up to isea / zero one (or whatever...) next week and the site really confused me. So I took about 15 minutes and created this geo feed of all the events, times and locations. feed made with geotagthings.

You can use any of the feeds below in your own geo aggregator. The KML feed works nicely in google maps or google earth. For your convenience, you can check out the kml feed on google maps here:

google maps link

or roll your own map:
KML (paste into google maps or add as a network link in google earth)

GEORSS (2.0 use with mylocalguru or mapufacture if you want)

GEORDF (1.0 I dunno why you'd use this, but feel free to anyway...)
