voip is not necessarily tied to a bulky laptop -- PDAs and other mobile devices are getting more powerful as they get smaller, and with adequate i/o systems (e.g. small phone-like microphones and headphone jacks), could easily become a cheaper alternative to my crappy $60 verizon bill.
Posted by Will at April 12, 2004 4:49 PMDoesn't this still dictate that you are within a WiFi network with that PDA/Mobile device? As nice as it sounds to be able to run a phone app on a PDA, how prolific will my WiFi network be to connect? I guess this all depends on how fast the wireless internet signals will proliferate our lives and how "adhoc" they truly are, if at all. If all wireless internet signals are locked down, then we lose what i would think would be the key to this technology overthrowing the telco's. Is this what you are driving at?
