Comments: Interesting Gravity Game

Great Game Jenova! I'm going to add that one to my list of favorites for my thesis. I like the way it plays and the way the gravity affects your shots. It's a very calming game.

yeah, don't like it. I like the physics, but there's not enough feedback, or enough change through the levels for me to make in interesting, or to keep wanting to advance.

Fun game, well designed. Emergent play? I dunno. I suppose it is a simple emergent system, but only in it's mechanics. I also agree with Will, there is no reason to play this anymore than a moment unless you've got a twitch.

Yay, a non-political post. Go Jenova!

Well, I'm not sure if you guys figured out you can change the speed of ur meteor by drag it at the beginning. Also when I say emergence, I mean the complex result after you release the meteor and the tension it builds up when it run through between the two planets. That is very rewarding. Also look at the player's record. There are people who are free enough to donate that much time. Of course we won't because we are IM students:P

I don't think this is an example of "emergence". When I've heard people talk about emergence, it has something to do with creating a complex system that yields results you didn't initially plan for.

This is a simple dynamic vector-based animation/simulation with a timer and some very small interactivity tacked on. The effect of the way the particle moves around is a direct result of how the attractors were programmed to effect it, not the byproduct of some more complex rules interacting with each other. Its too simple to call it emergent.

Everybody knows the system is very simple, most of us can program it. Even though You can not predict the result. Each time you release your mouse button, you always have this anticipation, because you know something not in your plan will happen. This is what emergence brings us. Maybe it's too simple to call a system, but I still regard it as a very typical emergence.

I don't buy that. For me, I barely had any expectations... I can't make a "plan". Its just a bunch of randomly placed gravity fields.

I see what your logic is, but for me, there is a big difference between a simple dynamic simulation with some random numbers and interactivity tacked on and emergence.

Aaron, I'm surprised after your work on Sims 3 that you are so resistant to a game that yields unexpected results. I feel the same way playing this game that I do when I play Facade; my actions are a part of the enviroment in which the characters play, and so ride the line between having a direct influence and being meaningless. The levels don't have enough variety? Well, it reminded me of good 'ol Breakout, which ain't such a bad thing.
