E.L.E.C.T. Enhanced Learning Environment with Creative Technology

ELECT_1.jpgThis project aims to design an application to assist U.S. Army training in cultural awareness and bi-lateral engagement skills within a compelling scenario with realistic characters. The game simulates elements of bi-lateral negotiation as experienced during scenario training at military National Training Centers. This version takes place in Iraq although the application will be adaptable to introduce other countries and cultures.

ELECT_2.jpgOur method began with research on several topics: Bi-Lateral Negotations, Iraqi culture, identifying common areas of misunderstanding between western and Arab culture, and current military training for both negotiation skills and cultural awareness. Our task was to find the intersection between negotiation training and cultural sensitivity training in a setting likely to be experienced by the U.S. military in Iraq.

We began rapid paper prototyping in June and designed a original play mechanic including a modular approach to mechanics and narrative we term Object Oriented Story Telling. The current paper prototype is supported by a wire frame interface in order to accommodate increasingly complex scenarios and a large cast of characters.
