Intermediate Game Projects, Spring '06

ArcanosphereThese game projects were created in the intermediate game design and development course, which introduces students to concepts in game design and development such as ideation, digital prototyping, interface design, usability testing, level design, quality assurance, team work, project planning and management. The main emphasis of the class is the conceptualization of innovative design goals and the execution of those goals in the form of a complete, polished intermediate game project.

Army of DucksThe intermediate class is a studio environment and a large part of the class focuses on critique and problem-solving for individual team projects. Students are encouraged to treat the development of their projects professionally and to participate actively in all critique sessions, giving and receiving feedback of the highest quality. Students are encouraged to take risks in this course and to look beyond the examples of existing game genres to try new and different design ideas. At the same time, they are expected to complete an innovative small game, and so must take into account the time and resources available.

Brain SpoorThe intermediate games created by the Spring of 2006 class are:

Arcanosphere (~36MB)
(Bryan Haskell, Matt Dabrowski)
The Arcanosphere needs you! Help apprentice wizard Pendlebury guide his partner, the all-powerful Daud'ghe Bahl, through six perilous levels in order to save his world from destruction. Your wits, your coordination, and your reflexes all shall be put to the test in the race to save Arcanosphere.

Army of Ducks (~11MB)
(Tomer Mor-Barak, Shon-Ting Fu)

HarmoniumBrain Spoor
(Garrett Rodrigue, Jacob Thompson)

Harmonium (~31MB)
(Jen Hollcroft, Jesse Vigil, Jay Thornhill)
Create a song, note by note, to complete the fairy tale of HARMONIUM. In the game, players use lines of magical force to push and pull objects around the screen in a fun and addictive play style that is easy to learn but challenging to master as they attempt to create the melody that will reunite the heroine with her one true love.

The Mind's Eye
The Mind’s Eye (~17MB)
(Charles Mallison, Jared Sain)
In The Mind's Eye we intended to tell a complex story with simple mechanics. Our inspiration came from listening to independent bands around campus and from aborbing the emotional highs and lows of undergraduate life. We also like puzzles.

Sonar (~25MB)
(Waylond Fong, Eric Spoerner)
They've taken your eyes, but there are other ways to see... Welcome to the visceral world of Sonar, where all you have is your ears (and your echolocation call) to help you escape from your captors.
