Intermediate Game Projects, Fall '06
These game projects were created in the intermediate game design and development course, which introduces students to concepts in game design and development such as ideation, digital prototyping, interface design, usability testing, level design, quality assurance, team work, project planning and management. The main emphasis of the class is the conceptualization of innovative design goals and the execution of those goals in the form of a complete, polished intermediate game project.

The intermediate class is a studio environment and a large part of the class focuses on critique and problem-solving for individual team projects. Students are encouraged to treat the development of their projects professionally and to participate actively in all critique sessions, giving and receiving feedback of the highest quality. Students are encouraged to take risks in this course and to look beyond the examples of existing game genres to try new and different design ideas. At the same time, they are expected to complete an innovative small game, and so must take into account the time and resources available.
The intermediate games created by the Fall of 2006 class are:
Elementary Disaster
(Steve Prust, Joni Cheng)
As a substitute teacher for Mrs. Pushover, it’s your job to get the class under control...by any means necessary! Seat the kids simultaneously by slingshotting powerups at them, such as time outs, one on one time, pills and puzzles before time runs out. Good powerups’ll make them sit happily for a short time, while punishing powerups will make them cry but sit for longer.
Insurgency
(Peter Van Dyke, John Lund)
The violence in the Middle East has finally reached us in America. Step into the shoes of an insurgent as they struggle to survive in a war-torn city. But be careful, militias and armies shoot first and ask questions later. Enjoy immersing yourself in the unique atmosphere of Insurgency that comes from the interesting mix of cultural and political themes.

Moral Dilemma
(Todd Caranto, John Banayan, Sola Aiyegbusi)
As a surgeon in Iraq, make the tough decisions as to who lives and who dies. Taken directly from the headlines, the events are real and the people are too, only their names and specific circumstances have been changed. After an insurgent attack, casualties arrive in the operating room. Choose the patients and solve their puzzles before time runs out, to save their lives. If you are good, you may be able to save them all, but you may not want to, this is your Moral Dilemma. Moral Dilemma is a game with a serious bent. It puts the player in the center of a difficult experience and is meant to provoke emotion. Play it alone in the dark for maximum results.
Polarity
(Justin Perez, James Miao)
An abstract action puzzle of attractive forces!

Ragnarokk IMPORTANT Read Me First!"
(Mike Brazil, Max Geiger)
RagnaRøkk:
The Twilight of the Gods has come a thousand years too soon. Odin has granted you, Knüt Metalsson, his greatest power in a desperate bid to ward off the doom of the Aesir: the power to play electric. Now, as the most trusted skald of the gods, you must rock and roll your way through midgard in order to stop RagnaRøkk!
