will apple get it right?
New patents from Apple, this time around a "tablet" device, and more importantly, a gesture-based UI. Tablets have been a miserable failure imho except for niche uses (e.g. we had a project with surgical slides that could be annotated for training purposes). But with the right applications and UI, things get much more interesting. Hrmpf.com has a nice write-up.

Interesting, and funny, since Vince, I and others were talking about this in the lab the other day.

I don't think it's a matter of getting it right; I think Microsoft's tablet implementation is quite good as it is. It's a marketing and price thing. I don't think I would have ever gotten (and fallen in love with) my tablet if it wasn't availible for less than 1000 USD. As it is, in an age where every student is getting 500-700 dollar Dells on admission to college, the 500-1000 dollar premium for a tablet version of the same portable computer power is tough to swallow.
